Weight loss more successful and sustainable with formula diets like Almased
Scientific studies confirm practical experience.
People who replace individual daily meals with so-called formulated products, such as Almased, do not only lose weight more successfully than when they follow weight reduction strategies without such substitute meals: they also achieve more sustainable improvements regarding their body weight. This is the result of recent studies by British and Danish scientists that compared formula diets with other weight-loss concepts. Almased is a particularly valuable dietary alternative so it can be deduced from the researchers' analysis that it helps lose weight just as actively and successfully as it helps to stabilise a healthier body weight in the long term. As a formula diet, Almased thus proves it contributes to a person’s well-being in the long term, especially if the person is overweight or obese. In addition, Almased can also be used as a dietary supplement for people of normal weight – especially those who want to stay that way.
In their study entitled “A systematic review and meta-analysis of the effectiveness of meal replacements for weight loss”, the British scientists investigated how well diet concepts with and without meal-replacement by a calorie-reduced product in the form of shakes, bars, ready-to-drink beverages or powder are suitable for losing weight. For this purpose, the researchers analysed the results of 23 studies involving nearly 7,800 adults and evaluated how successfully overweight and obese persons reduced weight in the course of a year with formula diets. Concepts involving an intake of less than 800 kilocalories a day were not considered, nor were diets where all meals during the day consisted of formulated products.
At the end of the evaluation, it was clear for the scientists that diets involving meal replacement by formulated products achieved better weight-reduction results than the control diets. Countless satisfied Almased users can certainly confirm this.
Formula diets also stabilise weight loss in the long term
To all intents and purposes, Danish scientists based their study “Long-term weight-loss maintenance in obese patients with knee osteoarthritis” on this finding. This is because they assumed that it was well known that formula diets had already helped or could help obese patients with osteoarthritis in the knee successfully reduce their body weight. However, the aim of this study was to find out to what extent formula diets could also guarantee weight loss in the long term. Doctors consider losing weight to be the most effective remedy for osteoarthritic pain in the knee.
In order to assess the long-term efficacy of formula diets like Almased, the researchers randomly selected patients at the University Hospital of Copenhagen in Frederiksberg, Denmark, with osteoarthritis of the knee who were aged over 50 and had a body mass index above 30. At the end of the study phase, the scientists then found that after an average weight loss of 10 per cent and a one-year stabilisation of the new weight by the continued daily or even irregular replacement of meals with formulated low-energy diet products like Almased, the weight loss could be maintained for another three years. These results contradict the widespread assumption that after a period of weight loss, weight gain is inevitable in the long run. In other words, there does not have to be a yo-yo effect! The Danish researchers thus confirmed in their study what many Almased customers have already experienced in practice.
